Kongsberg International School is a non-profit foundation established in 2002 by Kongsberg Gruppen ASA, FMC Kongsberg Subsea AS, Kongsberg Automotive ASA and Kongsberg Nærings- og Handelskammer (Chamber of Commerce and Industry).

The school opened its doors in August 2003. The purpose of the school is to serve Kongsberg and its surrounding communities by providing a high quality international education for students, based on the International Baccalaureate Programme (www.ibo.org), using English as the principal medium of instruction.

Although many of our students are Norwegian, a growing international community in Kongsberg and Buskerud has provided enrolment of students from over 22 nations.

KIS is an IB World School, which is fully authorized in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students from ages 3 to 11, and Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students from ages 11 to16. Kongsberg Videregående School, in partnership with KIS, offers a fully authorized IB Diploma Programme for students from age 16 at its campus just a short distance from KIS.

The three programmes are designed to develop students' intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. We aim to offer a very high standard of education at KIS, and strive to keep class sizes small. We hope that you find our website informative.
