MYPA Tour de Kongsberg

MYPA Camp to Sachsen
The camp started in Skollenborg Station on a stunning morning of June 3rd where six students, Mr Richards and Grandpa Wessel had to bike the 9 km back to KIS to meet the other campers. We did our best impression of a peloton in the Tour de France and managed to avoid the thousands of students cycling to school in the other direction.
The first activity was the mountain bike up to camp. It was quite a hot day already and judging by the number of students pushing their bikes up the hill to the bottom of the ski lift we knew it could be a long climb ahead. Some students enjoyed the challenge and Daniel, Vatslav and Eydis were the first students to make the top of the ski hill after Mr Smith. Oda also made it with a sore ankle and no fuss.
The second activity was abseiling. Hege joined us at this point and tested the safety and length of the ropes with the aid of Mr Smith and Mr Richards. Some of the students really enjoyed this challenge and we had the compulsory nerves and screaming. Johanne and Thale would have happily kept going for the whole day.
Next up was a paddle in a nearby lake and the water was actually pretty warm. Camp was set up with the assistance of Mr Beavan and the students showed off their impressive cooking skills, particularly Chef Adrian. The students were excellent at amusing themselves and played several games together in groups.
Ms Weeden had joined us at this stage and the night activity was a walk up to Knutehytta. It was a beautiful evening and apart from Age Markus trying hard to lose his shoe in the mud, we all made it up and back. The compulsory hot chocolate and marshmallow roasting over the fire was next and the evening finished with a game of boxy boxy (boksengar) where Daniel proved very difficult to find.
The students eventually went to sleep after an entertaining game of truth and dare between the girls. Charleigh really needs to work on her whispering skills.
The next day started with breakfast and bacon. The students were divided into three groups and did some problem solving activities and shooting. There was still time for a last game of boxy boxy and then camp was dismantled.
We finished with a much faster mountain bike ride down with Amanda in the lead. Thale also did very well to get down since her chain snapped at the top of the hill.
A big thank you to Mrs Richards, Ms Weeden, Mr Beavan, Grandpa Wessel (who did all the activities), Hege Myhre, Peter Due and Mr Smith.

Mr. Richards
