KIS PTA 2009/2010

The PTA initiates fundraising projects throughout the school year to enrich the educational experience and opportunities for students and to provide funding for new resources at the school, which are not covered by school fees or government subsidies.

On 23 October 2009, the PTA organized an International Food Festival at KIS so encourage all students to try new foods and delicacies from other countries. KIS parents responded overwhelmingly by contributing many international family dishes of their home countries.  The PTA raised almost 7 000 NOK from the food sale, which was used to purchase three new picnic tables for the playgrounds, 40 pairs of used skates for the newly installed Ice Skating Rink, and volleyball / badminton posts to be installed in April in the playground.
 
PTA also organized a Flag Day on 23 October to celebrate United Nations Day. After sampling foods at the International Festival, PYP students, dressed in their national costume, walked to Stortorvet where they paraded through the mall while waiving their nation's flag. The local paper took pictures of the very colourful and enthusiastic procession.

In December 2009, the PTA held a Christmas Basket Silent Auction from donated items, and raised over 5000 NOK. This money will be used to support the whole School and Preschool Winterfest on Monday, 8 March, a day of fun outdoor House activities for all students at Bevergrenda. Parents are invited to volunteer to join KIS staff and students that day to enjoy some of the activities or to help cook lunch.
 
On Friday, 23 April, the PTA will help teachers to organize the annual Book Fair / Book Day at KIS. Students are encouraged to dress up as a character from their favourite book. New books will be on sale that day at the school with proceeds going to support the purchase of new books, CD's and DVD's for the KIS Library and media resource centre. Books of Norwegian fables by Oistein Holleland, the famous Norwegian children's author and a teacher at KIS, will also be on sale.

The PTA will organize a KIS community clean-up and renewal day in late April to re-paint and stain the climbers and outdoor equipment in the playground, install the volleyball / badminton posts, and line the tarmac area for basketball, volleyball, badminton and tennis. All parents and MYP students are invited to attend for a three hour workfest and funfest.

PTA meetings are held on the third Wednesday each month at 18.00 in the KIS Library. All parents are invited to attend.
